    The Mangaluru Branch of SIRC of ICAI, in association with Kannur Branch, successfully organized a One Day Seminar on 26th August 2025 at Raj Residency, Kanhangad. The programme was highly relevant in the current professional scenario, focusing on strengthening compliance and reporting practices, and was well-received by the fraternity. The event was presided over by CA. Muhammed Faisal K. P., Chairman, Kannur Branch of ICAI, and CA. Bantwal Nithin Baliga, Chairman, SICASA Mangalore Branch. The programme began with the Lighting of the Lamp and ICAI Motto Song, formally inaugurating the seminar. CA. Ramnatha Prabhu, President of the Kasaragod Chartered Accountants’ Association, delivered the Welcome Address, followed by the Presidential/Chairman’s Address by CA. Muhammed Faisal K. P. and the Inaugural Address by CA. Bantwal Nithin Baliga. The invitation to dignitaries was extended by CA. Vishal Kumar (Kasaragod), and the Introduction of Faculty was done by CA. Sreelal Karimbil, Secretary, Kasaragod CA Association, for CA. Shrivatsa Bhat K M (Mangaluru), and by CA. Archana Sunesh (Kasaragod), for CA. Ranjit Kumar T V (Kannur). The seminar featured two enriching technical sessions: CA. Shrivatsa Bhat K M (Mangaluru) – Readiness for Peer Review, which emphasized audit quality, preparedness, and compliance with ICAI Peer Review framework. CA. Ranjit Kumar T V (Kannur) – Reporting for Non-Corporate Entities, highlighting critical disclosures, accounting standards application, and challenges in reporting. The sessions were well-received, followed by felicitation of speakers. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by CA. Vinodh Kumar, Kasaragod Chartered Accountants’ Association, and the National Anthem. The seminar witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 41 members and students from Mangaluru, Kannur, Kanhangad, and Kasaragod, making it a vibrant forum for professional learning and networking. Accredited with 6 CPE Hours, the event reinforced ICAI’s mission of continuous knowledge enrichment and professional excellence.

    One-Day Seminar on “Taxation & Audit of Co-operative Societies” The Mangaluru Branch of SIRC of ICAI conducted a full-day seminar on Saturday, 10 May 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at ICAI Bhawan, Mahendra Arcade. The programme, carrying 6 CPE hours, focused on contemporary tax and audit challenges faced by co-operative credit, dairy and service societies. Technical Sessions CA Varun Bhat, Sirsi - Special Issues in Taxation Laws applicable to Co-operative Societie - Recent amendments to Sections 80P & 194N, treatment of interest income, and optimisation of deductions while remaining compliant. CA B. V. Raveendranath, Sagar - Co-operative Audit – Statutory Provisions - Karnataka Co-operative Societies Act & Rules, audit planning, reporting under Form A B C, and common qualifications noted by the Registrar. Highlights • The seminar drew an enthusiastic mix of practising members and finance officers of local co-operative bodies. • Speakers shared real-life case studies, helping participants translate statutory provisions into practical audit check-lists. • Lively Q&A sessions clarified gray areas in classification of income, reserve appropriations, and auditor reporting responsibilities. • Participants appreciated the hands-on approach and requested follow-up workshops on IT-enabled audit techniques for co-operatives. Branch Chairman CA Prashanth Pai K welcomed the gathering and emphasised the importance of robust governance in the co-operative sector. Secretary CA Mamta Rao proposed a vote of thanks, acknowledging both faculty members and the organising committee for successfully delivering the programme. With positive feedback and actionable takeaways, the seminar reinforced the Branch’s commitment to capacity-building for members serving the vibrant co-operative movement in the region.
