Mangaluru Branch of SIRC of ICAI & Mangaluru Branch of SICASA of ICAI proudly celebrated Teachers’ Day 2025, expressing heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed faculties for their unwavering guidance, dedication, and inspiration. The celebration began with a live interaction with CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, President – ICAI, setting the tone with his insights and encouragement. This was followed by an inaugural and inspiring address by Prof. Dayananda Naik, former Professor in Political Science at Mangalore University, whose words added depth and warmth to the occasion. The evening culminated in a felicitation ceremony honouring our faculties for their invaluable contribution. It was truly a memorable day, celebrating the mentors who continue to shape our professional journey with wisdom, care, and inspiration.

    The Mangaluru Branch of SIRC of ICAI, in association with Kannur Branch, successfully organized a One Day Seminar on 26th August 2025 at Raj Residency, Kanhangad. The programme was highly relevant in the current professional scenario, focusing on strengthening compliance and reporting practices, and was well-received by the fraternity. The event was presided over by CA. Muhammed Faisal K. P., Chairman, Kannur Branch of ICAI, and CA. Bantwal Nithin Baliga, Chairman, SICASA Mangalore Branch. The programme began with the Lighting of the Lamp and ICAI Motto Song, formally inaugurating the seminar. CA. Ramnatha Prabhu, President of the Kasaragod Chartered Accountants’ Association, delivered the Welcome Address, followed by the Presidential/Chairman’s Address by CA. Muhammed Faisal K. P. and the Inaugural Address by CA. Bantwal Nithin Baliga. The invitation to dignitaries was extended by CA. Vishal Kumar (Kasaragod), and the Introduction of Faculty was done by CA. The seminar featured two enriching technical sessions: CA. Shrivatsa Bhat K M (Mangaluru) – Readiness for Peer Review, which emphasized audit quality, preparedness, and compliance with ICAI Peer Review framework. CA. Ranjit Kumar T V (Kannur) – Reporting for Non-Corporate Entities, highlighting critical disclosures, accounting standards application, and challenges in reporting. The sessions were well-received, followed by felicitation of speakers. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by CA. Vinodh Kumar, Kasaragod Chartered Accountants’ Association, and the National Anthem. The seminar witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 41 members and students from Mangaluru, Kannur, Kanhangad, and Kasaragod, making it a vibrant forum for professional learning and networking. The occasion also witnessed the felicitation of newly qualified Chartered Accountants, the recognition of May 2025 exam toppers, and the honoring of scholarship awardees, adding to the day’s significance.

    One-Day Seminar: “Taxation of Trusts & Related Issues under the Income-tax Act” – 2 August 2025 The programme opened with a solemn floral tribute to the late CA N. Manoharan, honouring one of the profession’s finest mentors before the technical deliberations began. Technical Session 1 – CA E. Phalguna Kumar (Tirupati) Comprehensive walk-through of Sections 11–13, registration under Section 12AB and the 85 % utilisation rule. Case studies on corpus vs. specific donations, inter-charity transfers and Form 10B audit qualifications. Technical Session 2 – CA V. Ramnath (Coimbatore) “Assorted Issues” including taxability of voluntary contributions, implications of Section 115TD exit tax and recent CBDT circulars. Strategies for drafting trust deeds to withstand scrutiny and tips on e-filing Form 10B/10BB without glitches. The day-long seminar, held at ICAI Bhawan, Padil, delivered 6 CPE hours and attracted practitioners serving NPOs, educational and religious trusts.     54th AGM of Mangaluru Branch of SIRC of ICAI The Mangaluru Branch (SIRC) convened its 54th Annual General Meeting on 28 July 2025 at the Padil premises. Members unanimously adopted the audited financial statements and annual report for FY 2024-25 after a presentation by Branch Treasurer CA Balasubramanya N. Past Chairmen joined the current Managing Committee, lending historical insight to an open forum that reviewed the year’s key milestones—professional development programmes, student initiatives and infrastructure upgrades. Constructive suggestions were also given. Branch Chairman CA Prashanth Pai K thanked the predecessors for their continued guidance and assured members that the committee would convert the recommendations into actionable plans, steering the Branch toward an even more impactful future.

    One-Day Seminar on “Income-tax & Company-Law Compliance” The Mangaluru Branch (SIRC) held a full-day technical seminar on Saturday, 19 July 2025 (9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.) at ICAI Bhawan, Padil, granting 6 CPE hours. CA Naveen Khariwal (Bengaluru) explained: 1. pitfalls in taxing retiring/deceased partners on reconstitution or dissolution of firms; 2. correct TDS treatment on salary, remuneration, interest and commission paid by firms to partners. CS Gaurav Pingle (Pune) outlined key Company-law compliance checkpoints for statutory auditors, with emphasis on e-filing timelines, CARO 2025 disclosures and penalties under the amended Companies Act. The programme opened with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony joined by senior past chairmen and managing committee members. Case-law analyses, interactive polls and real-life illustrations kept the 120-plus delegates engaged, prompting lively Q&A on Section 45(4) issues and Board-report certifications.     World Youth Skills Day To mark World Youth Skills Day, the Mangaluru Branch (SIRC) hosted a lively afternoon session on the theme “Unlocking New Horizons: Upskilling Chartered Accountants for Success” at ICAI Bhawan, Mahendra Arcade. The programme, offering 3 CPE hours, drew members and students keen to enhance their professional skill-set. CA M. Narasimhadas Pai led an engaging workshop titled “Talk, Trust, Thrive”, featuring ice-breakers, role-plays and group challenges that highlighted practical tools for team-building, workplace communication and POSH awareness. CA Kiran Vasant followed with an insightful talk on Emotional Intelligence (EQ), illustrating how self-awareness and empathy sharpen decision-making and client relationships in practice.     TDS Awareness Drive with the Income-tax Department The Mangaluru Branch (SIRC) hosted an outreach programme on “Towards Better Tax-Deduction Practices” in collaboration with the Income-tax Department on 4 July 2025 at ICAI Bhawan, Mahendra Arcade. • Shri Naveen Kumar S, IRS (Deputy Commissioner – TDS, Panaji) and Smt Sunanda Prasad, IRS (ITO-TDS, Mangaluru) led the technical discussion, while Dr Ish Gupta, IRS (Joint Commissioner – TDS, Panaji) presided. • Covering common TDS defaults, revised return-filing utilities and new CPC-TDS communications, the officers shared live portal demos and best-practice check-lists. • A packed audience of members and corporate deductors engaged in an extended Q&A, resolving practical issues on Section 194-O, late-fee waivers and Form 26Q mismatches.     77th Chartered Accountants’ Day The Mangaluru Branch (SIRC) marked the 77th Chartered Accountants’ Day with a patriotic and inspiring morning function at ICAI Bhawan, Padil. • Flag-hoisting (9:30 a.m.) was led by Shri H. V. Darshan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate of Dakshina Kannada, who lauded the profession’s growing role in transparent governance. • Lamp-lighting & felicitation followed, joined by Capt. Ganesh Karnik, former Karnataka MLC, and Branch leaders CA Prashanth Pai K (Chairman) and CA Mamta Rao (Secretary). • In his keynote address, Capt.     ICAI MSME Mahotsav – “Ek Din MSME Ke Naam” The Mangaluru Branch (SIRC) joined hands with ICAI’s Committee on MSME & Start-ups to host an afternoon MSME outreach programme on 27 June 2025 at ICAI Bhawan, Mahendra Arcade. Inaugural session (3:00 – 6:00 p.m.) featured addresses by Branch Chairman CA Prashanth Pai K and Secretary CA Mamta Rao, Government and industry guests Mr K. Natraj Hegde (IIF Coordinator), Dr Socrates Kalai (MSME-DFO, GoI) and Shri Vivek D (MD, Dak Milks). Eminent local practitioner CA Sanketh S. Nayak shared practical perspectives on bank finance and compliance for small businesses. Thematic talks & panel discussion highlighted: • New credit-linked subsidy schemes, • Grievance-redressal avenues for delayed payments, • Tax/ ROC compliance milestones for FY 2025-26, and • The pivotal advisory role chartered accountants can play in MSME scaling and formalisation. Walk-in help desks (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) earlier in the day provided free MSME registration and SIDBI / bank loan counselling, drawing retailers, budding start-ups and first-time tax-filers. Delegates earned 3 CPE hours and praised the hands-on support format. The Branch resolved to conduct quarterly clinics to continue guiding the region’s MSME ecosystem toward sustainable growth.

    11TH International Day of Yoga The Mangaluru Branch (SIRC) celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga with an energising 6:30 – 8:00 a.m. session on the 2n? Floor of ICAI Bhawan, Mahendra Arcade. Guided by renowned yoga guru Shri S Prasad, members, students and staff performed a sequence of asanas, pranayama and relaxation techniques in keeping with this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” Branch Chairman CA Prashanth Pai K opened the programme by emphasising the role of physical and mental well-being in sustaining professional excellence. After the practice, Shri Prasad shared practical tips on incorporating yoga into daily routines, underscoring its benefits for posture, stress management and focus.     Condolence Meet in Memory of CA P Raghuchandra Shetty (1962 – 2025) The Mangaluru Branch of SIRC of ICAI organised a solemn condolence meeting on Saturday, 10 May 2025 at 5:30 p.m. at the Branch premises, ICAI Bhawan, Mahendra Arcade. Members gathered to pay homage to CA P Raghuchandra Shetty, a respected professional and mentor who served the fraternity with distinction until his untimely passing on 25 April 2025. The programme opened with a silent prayer, followed by heartfelt tributes from past chairmen, senior chartered accountants, colleagues and students who highlighted his contributions to the Branch, his commitment to ethical practice and his supportive nature. Speakers recalled his tenure in various committee roles and his eagerness to guide young professionals. A two-minute silence was observed in his honour. The Branch resolved to cherish his legacy by continuing the values of integrity and service he exemplified. A condolence message conveying the Branch’s sympathies was sent to the bereaved family. The meeting concluded with members signing a condolence register and resolving to institute a yearly memorial lecture in his name.
