About the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) : The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament, viz. The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 (Act No.XXXVIII of 1949) for regulating the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country. The Institute functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. The ICAI is the second largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the world, with a strong tradition of service to the Indian economy in public interest. Over a period of time the ICAI has achieved recognition as a premier accounting body not only in the country but also globally, for maintaining highest standards in technical, ethical areas and for sustaining stringent examination and education standards. Government of India looks at ICAI as Partner in Nation Building. Since 1949, the profession has grown leaps and bounds in terms of members and student base. Membership strength of ICAI is about 3 lakhs and students strength more than 7.50 lakhs. ICAI has Registered Office at New Delhi and has above 160 branches all over India and also has above 30 Chapters abroad. About Mangaluru Branch of ICAI : The Mangaluru Branch of Southern Indian Regional Council (SIRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) was established on the 18th day of August 1971. The jurisdiction area of Mangaluru branch covers Dakshina Kannada district and Kasargod district, with around 700 members and more than 3500 CA students registered in the branch. Mangaluru branch is considered as one of the vibrant branches of the Institute for its all round activities, such as, organising programmes like conferences, seminars, workshops, study circles etc for its members, students and general public, and also, conducting various other activities such as social activities, sports & games, health sessions, educational & industrial tours, career counselling programmes etc. Mangaluru Branch of ICAI has been bagging the best performance awards almost every year in the recent past. Mangaluru branch is all set to celebrate its Golden Jubilee year in the next year 2020-21.
